A couple of years back we decided to shift our annual student ministry paintball trip to a men’s paintball trip. It was designed to be a father son type day, however, tons of grown men showed up to play like boys without bringing any kids. Some dads took us up on the offer to bring their sons and created some great memories. It has grown over the last couple years to the point that this year we had 72 guys show up to play paintball.
In the past I knew almost everyone one that went on this trip. However, this year something cool happened. Many guys invited friends and neighbors that don’t attend Suncrest. There were a ton of people who this was their first experience with Suncrest. It shows me that Suncrest truly does care about people far from God. I like to think we showed these guys that Christ Followers can be tough and have a good time.
This morning as I walked through the commons at West Campus it was funny to see groups of guys that went talking about their experiences from the day before. One guy would tell a story about his war wounds, another would tell a story about how he did something amazing on the “battle field”, and all of them told stories about how they shot me. What can I say? I am a big target! I just want to take a moment to let the guys that didn’t go know what they missed and to thank the guys that did go for a great time. A big thanks to Scott Coons, Robert Hanley and Doug Gamble for cooking lunch.

Every couple of months Student Life Ministries offers some great trips for students to grow in their faith and for them to invite friends to connect them to Suncrest and more importantly to Christ. ICTC is one of those trips, and it is extra special to me for a number of reasons. First, I attended this conference when I was in high school (I saw one of the rarest forms of expression in worship when I was a senior in high school), and second,I am on the planning team that put the conference together. I am really excited about this year’s conference for a number of reasons; its a great theme and, the concerts are going to be great! We are bringing in Flyleaf and Family Force Five…if you are over the age of 25, I don’t expect you to know who these bands are, however, you will get a gold star if you do! Just kidding. I don’t have any gold stars. This year we have tried to do everything we can to keep the cost of this trip down to $60 a student. If you are a high school student or the parent of a high school student I encourage you to sign up this Sunday. The deadline was Wednesday the 1st, but it has been extended an extra week to allow students more time to sign up!
I hope you can join us for another great trip.
